Section B practice: should buying second-hand clothes become a reflex?
A consumer magazine quotes the founder of a second-hand shop: buying clothes second-hand should be everyone's reflex, and there is no good reason to buy new. You write to the magazine. A consumption topic where a nuanced position (partly agree) works well, as long as it stays clear.
The task

How to tackle it
A plan
Opening: your experience and a nuanced position
You buy second-hand yourself, but not for everything: state this partial disagreement in one sentence.
Three arguments against the absolute claim
Some items must be new (winter boots), it takes time, some people can't find their size. One paragraph each, with an example.
What you agree with
Buy less and buy quality: the concession shows you have read the statement fairly.
Conclusion and closing
A solution, not an obligation: one sentence, then the letter formula.
Position and connectors
Traps that cost points
On this task
Partly agreeing is fine, but don't write « yes and no » all the way through. The grader needs to see one position and three arguments that support it; a text that keeps changing sides reads as off the point.
- Develop at least 3 distinct arguments. With fewer, the task score is capped, however good the French.
- Write the type of text the task asks for (letter, forum reply, email), with a greeting and a closing. A story or a general essay is the wrong type of text.
- Don't copy the statement. Any run of 5 or more words taken from the task doesn't count towards your 200 words: quote a few words at most.
- Write at least 200 words. Under 180 words, the task score loses a point; under 100, the result drops to the lowest band.
These are the rules the Allez7 grader applies in code. The TEF does not publish its length rule; the grader follows DELF practice.

Madame, Monsieur,
Veuillez recevoir, Madame, Monsieur, mes salutations distinguées.
