Frequently asked questions

What TEF Canada score do I need for CLB 7 (NCLC 7)?

According to IRCC’s equivalency table, NCLC 7 starts at 310 in speaking, 249 in listening, 207 in reading and 310 in writing. You need to reach it in each skill separately.

How many CRS points does French give in Express Entry?

As your first official language, up to 136 points (128 with a partner). As your second official language, up to 24 (22 with a partner). NCLC 7 or higher in all four French skills adds 25 or 50 more points, depending on your English results.

Which TEF Canada scores should I enter?

Your results show two sets of scores. IRCC uses the “Équivalence ancien score” (previous score equivalency) column and asks you not to enter the “Score / 699” column in your Express Entry profile. This calculator uses the same scale.

Is this calculator official?

No. It is an independent tool built from IRCC’s published tables, and it is not affiliated with IRCC, CCI Paris Île-de-France or the TEF. Always check your points on IRCC’s website.

Why does my total CRS score differ from this number?

This calculator counts only the points your French earns. Your CRS score also includes age, education, work experience, your partner’s factors and skill transferability.

How long are TEF Canada results valid?

IRCC requires language test results to be less than 2 years old when you create your Express Entry profile and when you apply for permanent residence.
